Humans were always an uneasy sort. On this vast, wild planet, they set out to create a reassuring orderliness — to define themselves and the creatures around them, to bridle nature, structure countries and kingdoms, to establish hierarchies among themselves so that each would know his place.

Faerie nature, in contrast, was (and remains) essentially fluid, ambiguous, and most often marked by caprice. Conniving and innocent both, they reveal themselves like a moment’s glare upon jewel stones; faster and fleeting and cloaked in privileged glimpses. With Earth Day coming fast I'm reminded that we need to re-think ourselves: To treasure, protect, and safeguard our nature.
